The prevention and management of extreme hydrometeorological events requires adequate climate data and information on current climate and future climate change scenarios. This is essential for hydrological planning and climate change adaptation policies and measures. The Ibero-American networks CIMHET, CODIA and RIOCC, with the support of the cooperation agencies AECID and FIIAPP as well as regional and multilateral organizations and programs, have been working together for several years to identify joint priorities and key actions to be developed at the regional level building bridges between the 3 sectors. In this context, European cooperation has also given relevance and follow-up to the lines of actions identified in the framework of the joint work of the 3 networks, in particular, efforts that are currently materializing will be presented, such as the high resolution climate change scenarios for Central America and the web viewer that has been developed, key tools for the design and implementation of adaptation policies and projects. These regional initiatives and programs show the value of peer-to-peer cooperation between Latin America and Europe, favoring the bi-regional exchange of knowledge and tools, and could be of interest for other regions.

Leadership on climate action: an intergenerational dialogue between women and youth leaders

16 November 2022
16:00 - 17:00

Zone Time: Sharm el-Sheikh

Location: Spanish Pavilion (Area B - Delegation Pavilions 3 - P27)

Organizer: Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

In recent years, the prioritization and acceleration of the climate agenda in the international arena has benefitted from the energy and increasing engagement of young activists (youth movements structured around platforms and CSOs) and of women leaders at decision-making positions (at highest level of Governments, of Multilateral Institutions, of think tanks and CSOs). Both key players have arguably assumed a leading role in accelerating responses to the climate emergency. Yet, in light of the latest NDCs Synthesis Report, the Emissions Gap Report and the latest IPCC AR6 report: more is needed to accelerate and amplify climate responses. What are the lessons have we learned from climate action leadership that should be capitalized in the future? Could youth and women leaders join forces for a more effective climate action? What are success factors and synergies to be tapped? As we enter a decisive decade for action, what are the risks for the climate movement? These, and other strategic questions on climate leadership will be explored in this intergenerational dialogue.
